The satellite photograph above is of the toxic dump at Tullamarine. This is the ugly scar that greets our interstate and international visitors to the city of Melbourne and the state of Victoria. We found it very surprising that a lot of people did not know a toxic dump existed let alone the fact that it was located at the end of Western Avenue, near the airport. Unfortunately, those of us who have been in the area for a few years know only too well where and what it is! Cast your mind back a few years to the days when that noxious stench made our lives miserable - not to mention the fires that would burn for days and have us wondering what on earth was going on down there! Despite all that TPI/Cleanaway say and do, we still get the smells occasionally and it’s still as putrid as before! Look at the map above – the toxic dump area is just as big as all the airline terminals combined AND the Hilton Hotel and Parking complex!Thousands of men, women and children work, live, and play within a 1.5 kilometre radius of the centre of the toxic dump! |
